Meet the Owners

January 2023 Therese retired and sold her business to her Daughter, Jill and Son in law Joe Wilson, who continue to bring you exceptional quality and customer service.

Therese Griffin Hicks

Therese was born into a ranching family that started operating in Gila County, Arizona in 1905. A rancher’s daughter, Therese went on to become a registered nurse, then a Doctor Chiropractic, finally returning to her home town to start her practice and to be close to the ranch…her first love!

As grazing permittees on a national forest, the family had many issues with the public leaving gates open allowing cattle to scatter into pastures where they did not belong. This caused many management issues, and inspired the idea of placing cattle guards at problem gates.

Cattle Guards requiring no pit that could be relocated if needed, not becoming a permanent donation to the roadway fit their needs. This was much more cost effective and did not require environmental clearances normally needed on Federal lands.

After discussing the idea with the District Forest Ranger and getting his blessing to go forward with some models, Therese also went to the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management at the Washington DC level and received approval from both agencies, and the FS National Engineer.

Since the Universal Cattleguard fit the family’s need, Therese decided to offer them to others who may benefit from a simple cost effective cattle guard.
